What are the benefits you have realized from EHR Adoption?
Anticipated benefits will be information management with integration in one central location with interfaces to lab, pharmacy, radiology, local physicians and physicians outside the local area. Ready access to information from anywhere via computer is a distinct advantage over the current paper system, and would be anticipated to improve care.

What advice would you offer a physician planning to adopt an EHR?
We are working closely with our hospital, which is also in the process of selecting a new information management system. Part of their process is to help physicians select an output system that will readily interface with the hospital in order to facilitate the flow of information. There are many good systems out there. I would select a system that has local prominence. Ideally, a local company that will provide quick on site or phone support will make the implementation process go more smoothly, and put your mind at ease, rather than dealing with a company whose offices are in a different time zone. Speak with others who are using the system and get their input. Realize that no system is perfect. Select one that meets your needs and expectations. The issue of support services, via phone, web, on site, cannot be overemphasized.
