What are the benefits you have realized from EHR Adoption?
Patient data availability from home, financial benefits, efficiency of preparing information for referrals, efficiency of gathering patient data when patient requires admission, ease, efficiency, and improved accuracy of keeping family history updated and of keeping past medical history separate from problem list, efficiency of electronic scheduling, intraoffice communication, electronic telephone encounters, and e-perscribing.
What advice would you offer a physician planning to adopt an EHR?
Make sure you're thoroughly convinced, personally, of the need and the desire to do it. It’s a rocky road and you need to be fully committed. Stay in control - don't let the computer geeks tell you what you need or don't need, or how to write a note or how to run your office. Insist that the electronic record produces a readable and accessible record, in the english language, that is a true reflection of the clinical encounter. Insist that the EHR serves you and your patients, and not the other way around. And if you cannot stay in control, try your best to fake it.
What financial strategies did you use to pay for your EHR?
BCBSRI Incentive Money.
