A discussion about disaster recovery was started within another topic, I thought it would be good to make this a separate discussion. Whether you purchase an EHR with an ASP model or hosted servers, you need to be clear how to get up and running if the primary systems fail. Your IT specialist should outline and test whatever disaster recovery system is established. If hosted, you should have backup systems on site, but also off site. Data should be backed up routinely - during the day and full-day backups overnight. Regardless of how your primary and backup systems are set up, you should have a disaster recovery plan, and you should test it.
