Set up a Safety Net — Create Policies & Procedures
Integrating the EHR into your practice requires creating policies and procedures that ensure compliance. These are especially important during the transition, as many questions are likely to arise about how to handle different situations. With policies and procedures in place, uncertainty — and errors — will be reduced.
Consider:
- How to assign access, editing, and customization privileges in the EHR
- How long before a note automatically locks
- Who will monitor the system during the workday and address problems as they occur
- Defining IT security, backup, and troubleshooting policies and procedures
