Work Your Own Way — Customize Templates
Among other things, EHRs help practices standardize their workflow and procedures. But the standard forms and templates built into an EHR by the vendor are rarely suited to individual practice workflows. This is why forms and templates are easily customizable.
Customizing templates is a critical part of the transition to an EHR. Start as soon as you have the software.
Your templates should offer:
- Easy-to-access lists of common medications and diagnostic code
- Historical notes
- Charting by exception, for findings that deviate from the norm
Consider having your physician champion or IT staff customize the templates for maximum efficiency.
