The Health IT Certification training program is divided into three tiers to better meet the needs of all learners. An online Prove-It assessment test helps to determine which tier best matches an individual’s skills and experience.
- Tier 1: Basic HIT skills (classroom training option)
For those with minimal or very basic computer skills and limited exposure to technology and medical information. Coursework options include training in Microsoft Word, Internet functionality, and HIPAA. - Tier 2: Intermediate HIT skills (classroom training option)
For those who work in a medical setting and who have computer skills, but do not have a broad, working knowledge of EHRs. Coursework options include training in Microsoft Excel, e-prescribing, basic EHR functions, discrete data fields, data scanning, and patient disease registries. - Tier 3: Advanced HIT skills (classroom training or online options*)
For those with a high level of computer and HIT skills. Coursework options include training in HIT, HIE, and EHRs. Topics include strategic planning, HIT project management, practice workflow redesign, data standardization and reporting, computer physician order entry, interoperability, clinical decision support, privacy and security, and using EHRs for quality improvement. Prepares students to take the exam to become a Certified Professional in EHRs (CPEHR).
Providers enrolled in RI REC's EHR Adoption Program have the option of completing Tier 3 training online. Contact your REC Relationship Manager to take the course online or please register here.
